“We, as young people, are given the opportunity to change and evolve particular services for other young people in the Newport area. With the help of PEERS training, we can tailor local mental health services to the needs of our demographic, which is a big step forward.” – Ben
If you are living in Gwent, aged between 14 and 25 and feel passionately about making sure young people are supported with their mental health, we want you to volunteer with us as a Wellbeing Ambassador!
As a Wellbeing Ambassador, we keep in touch with you through a mixture of online and in person meetings. We have a weekly general meeting that all volunteers are invited to attend. Every volunteer engages differently, and our programme is flexible so that you can get involved in a way that suits you!
Our Wellbeing Ambassador volunteering includes 4 different areas of work:
- Awareness Raising – raising awareness of mental health at different events as well as delivering our PEERS training.
- Youth Voice – getting young people’s voices heard across the organisation and beyond.
- Supporting Young People – helping out with our young people’s services at Mind in Gwent.
- Content Creation – helping develop our social media channels and podcast.
Wellbeing Ambassadors can choose which activities they would most like to get involved with once they have taken part in our training day. We also offer additional training depending on your interests once you have started volunteering with us!
How do I apply?

FAQ’s
No – as long as you live in Gwent when you sign up, you can become a Wellbeing Ambassador. Lots of our volunteers live across Gwent, so some of our activities and meetings take place online, and some in person. We want to create as many opportunities as possible for people to get involved, and this means doing our best to be flexible.
There are no compulsory attendances – you can use as much of your free time as you would like. A typical Wellbeing Ambassador meeting lasts for one hour and we have one every week, but you don’t have to attend every week!
Yes, once you have done your initial training you can choose which activities you would most like to get involved in. We post all opportunities out to all Wellbeing Ambassadors on our page, so you can choose what works best for you. Staff might make suggestions if you are unsure or show certain skills that we know would be good for particular areas of work.
Once you have completed your Wellbeing Ambassador training, there will be opportunities to get involved with more of our work. If after training you feel that volunteering is not for you, it’s ok to take a step back. Some people take breaks from volunteering during busy periods and join us again when they feel able. We want volunteering as a young person to work for you.
