Our self titled Newport Mind “allotmenteers” have been hard at work planting and getting the veg and flowers ready for their allocated beds.

“We are getting ready for Wales in Bloom competition and have entered the community category which we enter every year, for the first time this year we are entering the allotment category as well.”

The allotment also applied to Thatcher’s community orchard project and were successful in winning some apple trees, this is what Thatcher’s had to say :

“We are delighted to let you know that myself and the team at Thatchers were thrilled with your Community Orchard Project application and as a result would love to send you some apple trees.

This years Thatcher’s Community Orchard project received over 450 applications from across the UK. Your project really inspired us and we hope you get many years of enjoyment from your trees.”

Thanks to Thatcher’s, the whole allotment is benefiting from the apple trees as we have planted some in a communal area which will eventually be used by everyone with seating and a wildflower meadow, more pictures on the progress of this area to follow so make sure to keep checking back for updates!

We are always looking for new members to come and help out at the allotment, the current allotmenteers say it helps to get them out of the house, connect with people and nature and had a hugely positive effect on their mental health and wellbeing.

If this seems like something you or someone you know could be interested in please get in touch to find out more by emailing enquiries@newportmind.org or giving us a call on 01633 258741, we look forward to seeing you soon!
