Supporting students in school from year 7 up to and including year 13 who feel they need more than pastoral support to help them manage their school life.
The role involves supporting students who have difficulties in school relating to poor mental health and wellbeing that is disrupting student’s ability to remain in lessons/manage the school day. Difficulties may include:
- Anxiety/worries/panic attacks
- Anger/difficult emotions
- Bereavement/loss
- Low mood
- Self-harm/challenging thoughts
- Self-esteem/confidence/body image
Intervention to include:
- Discussion around confidentiality and safeguarding
- Safe space for students to talk and be listened to
- Focus on building resilience and commitment to utilizing coping strategies to manage wellbeing in school
- Support the student to return to lesson following the session
- Discuss a follow up appointment if the worker feels this is needed to provide the best possible outcome for the young person
- Signpost the young person to specialized agencies if needed
